We are delighted to host Preston Brown, Conservation Director of the Salmon Protection and Watershed Network (SPAWN), a program run by Turtle Island Restoration Network. Mr. Brown will provide an overview of SPAWN's work and approach to restoration (where they work and how). He will discuss coho salmon life history, limiting factors, and where their restoration efforts are focused. the presentation will highlight two examples of large-scale restoration projects SPAWN recently completed. Mr. Brown will also describe ways to help and get involved.
ABOUT PRESTON BROWN
Preston Brown is the Director of Watershed Conservation for the Salmon Protection and Watershed Network (SPAWN) Project of Turtle Island Restoration Network. As Director of SPAWN, Mr. Brown oversees several program areas that involve the protection and recovery of endangered coho salmon. In this role, he plans and directs watershed restoration projects, biological monitoring programs, strategic watershed restoration planning, community outreach, environmental education, and advocacy. Preston has been with SPAWN for nearly 10 years.
Previously, Preston Brown worked in the field of restoration ecology with Colorado State University where he studied methods of restoring forests and grasslands throughout the western United States. Preston has a B.S. degree in Natural Resources Management from Colorado State University where he gained experience in restoring damaged environments that have taken him from desert streams to historic gold mines.
In his free time Preston enjoys camping, fishing, and woodworking and is forever grateful for the opportunities to experience remarkable landscapes and diverse wildlife.
