Bios:
Dr. Aylin Akkaya is a dedicated marine biologist and conservationist specializing in cetaceans, marine protected areas, and stakeholder engagement. As the Founder and Scientific Director of DMAD-Türkiye and MDR-Montenegro Dolphin Research, she has led international conservation efforts for nearly a decade. Her work spans research, acoustic monitoring, mapping, and citizen science. Passionate about bridging science and local communities, she collaborates globally to drive sustainable marine conservation in the Mediterranean and beyond.
Ekaterina Kalashnikovais founder and the principal investigator of the Tanzania Cetacean Program. She has been living and working in East Africa for over 17 years, and she currently links science and communication at the Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies (Mozambique). Besides communications, Ekaterina has a strong marine research background with professional aspiration in cetaceans’ realm, and she has been studying marine mammals for the last 10 years in Tanzania and Mozambique.
